Usability Testing Session

Duration: 30 minutes
Activities: Tasks assessment, Interview, Questionnaire.
Research Location: Online
Participants: Moderator (Researcher), Visitor
Opening Phase: Thank you for agreeing to take part in this research. I am Celina Bebenek an Intern from an OpenGLAM initiative. This research aims to determine how users with special needs interact with the Europeana's website. In my research, I will ask you to make four short exercises and then I will ask you a few questions. There are no right or wrong answers, and you are free to leave at any time. The knowledge gathered from this interview will allow us to address these needs better. The interview should take around half an hour. Can I start recording? Ok, we are recording now. So…

Interview Questions (Purpose: To learn more about users and their needs)

What does your typical weekday look like?
When do you normally first use the Internet on a typical day?
What is the first thing what comes to your mind when you think about art
Could you tell me a bit about your relationship with art?
Tell me about the last time you tried to find some art-related content online?
What had you been searching for, whether you found this, or maybe the other way around?
What is important for you while searching for art related content online?

Tasks (Purpose: To test functionality of the wesbite)

Could you please “think aloud?” while performing tasks? You can relate everything you think.

Could you please evaluate each task on a scale between 1-5 where 1 means that it was very difficult for you and 5 means that it was very easy?

Imagine that your friend sent you a link you to watch a movie by a film director called Fatih Akin. He recommended you to read an article about him beforehand. Could you please read the article? To see the article please click here.

Purpose of the task: To test if the articles are accessible. For example, to see whether the length or the font are accessible for the user.

Imagine that you work on an article about fashion and you are especially interested in fashion from your home country. Could you please find such content?

Purpose of the task: To test if the search bar is functional.

Imagine that you are a photography lover who is interested in finding a collection of red photographs.

Purpose of a task: to test if a user can find a content in the desired color.

Then we would like to see if one could find educational resources easily on our website. It is important for our mission to help everyone in their education. Imagine you are a teacher who wants to find an online resource about digital culture for their students. Could you please find some on the website?

Purpose of the task: to test whether the educational content displayed on the wesbite is accessible

Follow Up Questions (Purpose: to allow participants to evaluate their experience and add additional remarks)

What was your experience with the website?
What was the best point of your journey?
What was unclear?
What would you wish to be changed?
What do you think other people would think about it?
